Everyday Kaona

Yesterday, as I waited for the plane to take off to O'ahu I read Hawaiian Airlines magazine article called Fertile Image. About a Hawaiian Artist that created a painting with a life of it's own by following his heart. What caught my interest was the layered meanings articulately explained - what we call kaona. Hidden meanings, literal and figurative, symbolism, metaphors. Hawaiian language, songs, and chants are rich with kaona if you are open to see it.

Then an image flickered in my head, my blog.   See, I didn't plan for the blog to be in black, after trying different backgrounds, I kept coming back to black.

After reading the article I had an epiphany. Culturally, black is the fertile ground from which things come from, once in the light, they are known.  Not something bad or negative, it's creation yet to manifest.

Hmmm.... you'll have to read the article and let me know what kaona resonates with you?
